    Check out my video on a good cheap vacuum former you can make yourself, and the “Instructable” that shows how to build it.

    Try vacuum forming a sheet of thin plastic onto the mold and leaving it there, then scuffing that plastic with 600 grit sandpaper, and vacuum forming over that.

    The plastic “slipper” will smooth out the mold at a very fine scale. The even finer scuffing will provide tiny air channels, ensuring that the plastic you form over it doesn’t stick or make a seal.

    I’m not sure how thick my PETG is. I used a gypsum mold but I get tiny spots on most of the final results. I have some that look pretty good but not perfect. . I guess it’s kinda hard with transparant plastics to get that “mirror” shine without spots.

    I am using 0. 020 Clear PETG sheets. Works great.

    I’ve tried doing the same thing for model car windows but a 100% perfect is kinda hard to achieve.
    I’ve used PETG what type of plastic do you use for your canopies? Cool video by the way!

    That’s some pretty cool canopy making! Try tapering the edges, though, it might get stuck in the mould. Just a suggestion.

    The mold is for an RC plane canopy — SB28 from BlueSkyRC. It was carved and sanded from balsa wood.
