you can make masks out of a balloon tape and plaster bandages I made a klingon mask when I was in school so I wish I had money to do this stuff I could make a movie I always liked learning about special effects I use to wach movie magic and all
instead of using it for a silicone mask would this work if i was making a latex mask with a clay sculpt on the armature first? look at my video titled “Deformation sculpt” and you’ll see what i mean
Try to find an artist store rather than going to Michael’s, which is a craft store. Michael’s doesn’t have much at all, and when it does have what you are looking for, it is usually expensive. In Portland, Oregon, a great place is “Art Media”. I only know Portland though. . .
You do a WONDERFUL JOB! Something I wouldn’t mind doing. . . thinking about buying some of your products too! Thanks for these videos! I find it fascinating!!!
I made that mold almost a year ago and it is still in use with little wear on it. Another mold made the same way in 2003 is still in use and aside from resin spilled on the outside still looks and works great.
Thanks! The silicone mold is at about 5 mm thick. If I make it thicker maybe I won’t be able to pull it off the clay head like a glove. . . ? Yes my next attempt will be trying to key the silicone to the plaster.
Without seeing your mold, I would suspect that you didn’t make the silicone mold thick enough. Another option would have been keying the silicone to the plaster mold. For an example of this, look at BITY’s rotomolding video with the “Swamp Monster” head.
Help! I already did two one-piece silicone castings from lifesized chavant clay heads. When I place the finished mold in the support shells and start turning it around to slosh around the silicone for reproducing, the silicone mold is flapping around and falling down from the plaster wall. What did I do wrong? Sorry for the bad english.
I don”t think so. We carry the high grade here in our shop and they are reasonably priced.
you can find “Plaster of Paris bandage” at any drugstores
